Dodd Civil was engaged to carry out all Civil Design and observation for this $6.5 million project to transform 1.474ha of industrial land into a manufacturing / warehouse facility for Southern Spars, to manufacture carbon fibre masts and booms (spars) for top of the line yachts.
Projects
Civil design works associated with the development including drainage, pavement design and earthworks
Preparing and obtaining all regional Resource Consents for the discharge of stormwater and sediment control
Supervising construction of all civil works
Challenges & Solutions The pavement design and access was required to accommodate extremely long loads, which resulted in us undertaking specific design to accommodate these ‘over-length’ loads. Because of the unique nature of the site, we had to design unique sediment control and stormwater management systems. Sediment from the site was controlled by a large sediment pond on site. Stormwater from the site was treated by way of a rain garden and stormwater filters. Both aspects were subject to Regional Council Resource Consents. The site was part of a greater industrial subdivision which our design had to be compatible with. The construction of our site was well ahead of the construction of the surrounding subdivision, which meant we needed to communicate regularly with the subdivision consultants. We also needed to liaise effectively with several other specialist consultants who worked on the Southern Spars site.
